FAQ's
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral for a physical therapy evaluation as part of Texas Direct Access to Physical Therapy. If you do not have a referral from another provider for physical therapy, then a signature on a therapy plan of care will be needed 10 days after initial evaluation in order to continue care. Accepted provider signatures include (but not limited to) the following: MD, chiropractor, nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife, physician assistant, dentist.
Do you accept insurance?
We are a private pay practice, and are out of network with insurance. We do accept HSA and some FSA for payment. We also provide super bills that can be submitted by you to your insurance to get reimbursement. This will depend on your out of network physical therapy benefits that are part of your specific insurance plan. We recommend you call your insurance provider and ask what these are.
Being out of network allows Dr. Alyssa to provide high quality, one-on-one care to her clients with their specific and personal goals in mind and without third party influence.
Can I bring my children with me?
You are welcome to bring your children to your appointments if needed. Children must remain in the same treatment areas as their parents for supervision (i.e. they will not be allowed to wait in the waiting room alone).
Is it too late to get help?
While early intervention is wonderful, physical therapy can still make a difference in your condition even if it's been several years since they started. Please reach out for a free phone consultation if you have questions!
What can I expect?
Every session is one hour and spent with your physical therapist. You can expect to be treated with care and respect when you choose to work with us. It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing, because often assessment and treatment will involve movement or some form of exercise. At West Pelvic Wellness, we prioritize a holistic approach to pelvic health and minimize the use of biofeedback, passive modalities and Kegels. Instead, we focus on the full body connection to your pelvic floor symptoms including posture, breath, multiple muscle group strength and mobility as well as pelvic floor function.
See below for a description of what a pelvic floor muscle assessment and internal pelvic exam may look like. Your pelvic floor therapist will ask for consent prior to any exam and if you are not comfortable with any part of the proposed assessment it will not be performed.
Every client is provided a customized home exercise program based on their evaluation. Completion of this program is key to your success and will likely only require 10-15 minutes of your time each day. This program will most likely change with each visit in order to help you make progress toward your goals.
